Step-by-Step: Remotely creating a new AD DS Forest Root Domain using Server Manager

This is the 5th post in this series, today we will learn how to create a new AD DS Forest Root Domain using Server Manager.

Setup:

Machine Name

Role

IP Address

WIN-DCExisting Root Domain192.168.1.1
WIN-DC1Member of existing dotnetscraps.com domain192.168.1.12
WIN-DC2Create a new root level Domain to dotnetscraps.com192.168.1.13

 

Step 1: Add Server and Install Active Directory Domain Servers

You will need to follow Step 1 and Step 2 as mentioned in the Post 1 of this series 

Step 2: Promote the server

  1. Under Server Manager
  2. Click on the Notification icon, click Promote this server to a domain controller

  3. This brings Active Directory Domain Services Configuration Wizard
  4. Select Add a new forest, under Root domain name: type corp.dotnetscraps.com
  5. Click Next

  6. Under Domain Controller Options, enter password for Directory Services Restore Mode (DSRM) password
  7. Click Next

  8. Under DNS Options, click Change…
  9. Enter the credentials of a Domain Admin account
  10. Click Next

  11. Under Additional Options, enter the NetBIOS domain name: type CORP
  12. Click Next

  13. Under Paths, I am keeping everything as default
  14. Click Next

    NOTE: Change the paths in the Production servers

  15. Under Review Options, click Next
  16. Under Prerequisites Check, click Install

    NOTE: Please review all the Warnings results before continuing
